Remedy for Rumbley in my Tummy

I am hungry right now. I’ve eaten plenty but stomach is growling. Today I have had 

• Clif Bar for breakfast (260)
• Fiber One Bar (140)
• Turkey and Cheese Sandwich on Wheat (about 250)
• Yogurt (100)
• String Cheese (70)
• 3 cup of pop corn (45)

For a total of 739 Calories

I drew my food because I left my camera at home today and I am a nerd.

Before I popped the popcorn, I decided that I need to start eating foods that keep me fuller longer. I began having hunger pains and that’s not going to fly! I don’t like the feeling that at any moment, if someone offered me a twix, I would say yes and scarf it down because I was feeling so hungry. When I’m hungry, I feel vulnerable! I need to work harder eating more protein. Protein keeps you fuller longer, right?

Ok… after researching I’ve found from Spark People that you need to eat foods with Low Density.

“Calorie density refers to the number of calories per gram of food. Foods that are HIGH in calorie density contain a high number of calories per gram; foods that are LOW in calorie density contain a low number of calories per gram. Calorie density is the key to feel full without overeating.

When you eat too many calorie dense foods, you’ll end up consuming a lot of calories to fill your belly. If you focus on low-calorie density foods, you can fill up on fewer calories because low density foods contain a lot more water, which adds weight and volume to the food, but no calories. ”

Low Calorie Density Foods are like clouds. They are heavy… but are less dense, so they float. (I’ve never understood that until now! Sorry… I’m an artist, not a scientist!)

To combat hunger through out the day…

EAT MORE broth-based soups like chicken broth and vegetable broth. (WHO KNEW!?)
EAT MORE leafy greens like lettuce, baby spinach and mixed salad greens with fat-free dressing.
EAT MORE fruits like apples, blueberries, cantaloupe, grapefruit, oranges, peaches, strawberries and watermelon.
EAT MORE non-starchy vegetables like asparagus, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, celery, cucumbers, tomatoes and winter squash.
TIP: Start your meal with a bowl of broth-based soup or low-calorie leafy green salad to fill up on fewer calories. Turn to non-starchy vegetables when you get the munchies.
Another option is to eat foods that are high in Fiber and Lean Protein.”

I am out of gum, but chewing gum through out the day, has helped me to fight my hunger cravings, and for some reason causes me to drink more water. I think water is a flavor enhancer, so while I’m chewing gum, I like to drink water. To me, it brings out the flavor in the gum!

The article goes on to say,

“Now that you know which foods have the staying power, it is important to spread these satisfying foods throughout the day into designated meals and snacks. Then you’ll be reaping the benefits all day long.

Even better, slow down and savor every bite. Research has shown that it can take 20 minutes for your stomach to signal your brain that you have reached satiety (Satisfaction). So take your time and enjoy every delicious bite along the way. ”

I think all of this is easier said than done but it is certainly helpful information. I think I need to go BACK to the grocery store! 🙂 We forgot to get fresh fruit and veggies yesterday (oops).

Moving on to my run…

I was meeting my friend, Sarah D and her mom, Melissa D. at my alma mater to do a little cardio. Well, there’s a track and then there’s a long trail that goes around the entire school. I was under the impression that I was going to meet them at the track but they had already started on the trail. For fear of my life and not catching up with them, I decided to hit the track running.

I printed the From the Couch to a 5K work out out, but left it at home, along with my camera, thus causing me to do my own little work out routine. I walked a lap then jogged a lap. Then wondered why I was son confident in my running abilities because it tore me up! I don’t think I got the right speed down and was running faster than I usually do. So I walked.. and then I pretty much got into the rhythm of walking half of each lap and running the other half. It worked out well enough.

I only did 2 miles before it started getting dark and I had things to do at home, so I left.

I’d like to pose the following question: Why don’t we do the things that are so good for us? After my work out, I felt great! It wasn’t too painful.. I mean, really…What is the deal? We are crazy messed up people and by “we” I mean “I”.  I understand why I don’t always eat right all of the time because I want to eat the good foods.. but exercising isn’t really that hard. I mean thank the Lord we have legs! I just get so mad at myself! I am a lazy bum! I need to remind myself of this every day! 🙂

Ha.. this reminds me of me too!

I need to make it part of my daily routine.. like brushing my teeth, or putting my shoes on. Then, if I know that I don’t have a choice… it is something that has to be done, maybe I will do it!? I’m just preaching to myself, friends 🙂

And after all of that has been said, I must say that day 2 is rest day of from the couch to a 5-k. ha ha ha 🙂


Running out of Excuses!

Well, It’s that time again. Summer is almost over and I’ve ran out of excuses. BUT I’m pretty sure I’ve gained about 3-5.. (maybe more) excuses to start back. I call them excuses, you call them pounds.

Well, whatever the case may be, it’s time.. It’s time to get back on that band wagon and lose some more weight!

To start, I’m going to the grocery store. I’ll be honest. I have not bought groceries in several weeks. Which means I have not cooked in several weeks. “What do you eat?”, you ask. I eat out. That’s bad..bad for me and my pocket book, so while I am loosing weight, I will (hopefully) be gaining dollars to go to more important things… like bills.. or to a goal dress that I’ve been eyeing from Anthropologie and have yet to buy (from all of my money being spent on eating out!)

I will buy the necessities of eating well. Clif bars, fruits and as many fresh veggies as I can find. I will continue to buy chicken and ground turkey meet. I should make a few menus so I will have a better idea of what to buy.

Jake likes Sandwiches too!


For lunches, I like turkey on wheat with a slice of 2% american cheese. I could always eat Lean Cusines, but I think I’ll stick to sandwiches for awhile. Then, I will get some yogurt and fiber one bars! Got to keep the fiber in the diet.

For dinner, Baked Chicken with zucchini, squash, and onions, Taco Soup, and lots of veggies! I may just make a vegetable plate tonight, in fact! What else can I make for dinner that is healthy? I do not own a grill. If I did, I’d grill chicken every night! I just run out of ideas 😦

Another thing is to drink plenty of water. I try to drink at least 64 ounces of water a day but it is definitely better if I drink more than that!

I have been very inspired by my sister-n-law, Jessie who has lost 15 pounds. She has been eating right and has recently started doing From the Couch to a 5-K. I’ve noticed many of her friends are doing it to and I want to try it as well. I ran a few weeks ago and was able to run about a mile and a half without stopping, but I want to do this right, (and i’ll have an excuse to walk) so I am going to follow the plan exactly. I will blog about my progress.

I hope that the few people who do read this will hold me accountable. I noticed that I started eating badly again when I stopped writing. Several people asked me why I stopped. It became a chore, I suppose…or maybe I got burnt out? But if writing about everything helps me stay accountable, then I am going to start writing again!

Well.. I did not know what I was eating for dinner last night which was my first mistake. Matt had band practice last night and we still have not gone grocery shopping, so after band practice, I was starving and we decided to get mexican.. we had a coupon! You can eat healthy at Mexican restaurants.. you just have to have the will power.. he he he.. um…I didn’t….STOP JUDGING ME! I’m sorry… It’s Matt’s fault.. he’s the one who wanted to order queso dip, he’s the one who said “I’m getting chips and salsa”, he’s the one who forced me to go to Dairy Queen afterwards and get a small vanilla kids cone.. so blame him, NOT ME! It’s not MY FAULT! I had a bad day yesterday, ok.. and I deserved a little emotional eating, gosh darn it!

Ok, I feel better now. 

Moving on.. Today Andrew had his last day of school and his awards ceremony. It was at 9:15 which meant that Matt and I would miss work this morning.. which also meant that we would actually have time to get some yummy breakfast together.. which also meant that we would go to waffle de casa.. which also meant that I was going to get a double hashbrown with cheese and a waffle with butter and syrup.. and coffee.. and water… and.. and… here I go again.. For the record, I have not been to waffle house since before I even started my diet and I only ate half of that waffle.. so there you go again, judging me for my reckless abandonment.. Well listen here, sista (or brotha) IIIIIIII am having my anniversary weekend so if that means that Matt and I want to eat breakfast together at Waffle de casa.. then that means we are going to DO IT!

We've been married 2 years on Monday!

It also means that we are going to go to My Cousin Vinny’s across the bay on Saturday Night and have the best PIZZA in the Mobile/Baldwin county area. It also means that we might even get ice cream afterwards. So stop being so judgemental.. what have YOU eaten today? Oh I forgot to mention that I am going to a Pioneer Woman themed birthday party tonight Complete with Queso, Salsa, Mexican Lasagna and yummy desserts.. oh and more margaritas!

You know what… i give up! HA! (for the weekend, I mean)

We live in the South.. and one of the things we do for entertainment is EAT… so what’s a girl to do. Sigh. I’ll tell ya what I’m gonna do.. I’m going to go running everyday next week to make it all better (YEAH RIGHT) and I’ll do lunges.. and squats…and lots and lots of cardio. 

You have to allow yourself a cheat day or two… so that’s what I’m doing. It would be bad if I ate that way EVERY day but I don’t.. and won’t.. I just have a lot of foodie things going on this weekend and it would be a shame to pass them up all because I want to be a size 10. I just have to accept the fact that it just might take a week longer to reach my goal.. and I’m ok with that.. baby steps, remember? I’m cheating to LOSE! LIke this book.. hmmmm I might need to buy this:

Holy Grocery List!

First I would like to include a hilarious contribution from my co-worker, Oliver. When it comes to eating right and working out he’s a pretty good accountability partner. He saw my grocery list on my desk and decided to put little X’s by the items that he thought to be contraband when I was not around. I told him the reasoning for each of the items and we are all squared away.. well.. except for the butter.. Oh.. and my popsicles.. and um.. well.. yeah.. a few other things. Thanks, Ollie, for keeping me on my toes.

While we are talking about Oliver. Let me just inform you what he eats for breakfast… NOTHING. Then when he has lunch.. guess what he eats…. BREAKFAST:

I just don't get it!


Speaking of breakfast.. Today I did NOT have a Clif bar. We are out.. I had three strips of the nastiest bacon you will ever put in your mouth. It was.. are you ready (and don’t judge me) GAS STATION BACON. Yes. We had to go to the gas station in Semmes to get gas because we were on EMPTY.. because of this, we would not be going to our saraland gas/subway/clifbar station. The Semmes Chevron (with the Sydney’s Fried Chicken in it) does not carry clif bars 😦 So I know that three strips of bacon only have about 140 calories.. or that’s two? I can’t remember. Yes, they have a LOT of fat but I am counting calories. They were the slimiest and greasiest pieces of bacon I have ever put in my mouth. Needless to say I will not be eating bacon again.. for a long time. Unless it is on a grown up grilled cheese. I will say that the bacon DID do a good job of holding me over until 11 when I ate my taco soup.

By 1:00 I noticed I was a little hungry and since I had already eaten lunch.. when I took my lunch, I went to Wal-mart and bought some Fiber One bars and oranges. Oh my goodness.. I haven’t had fiber one bars in about a month and I can’t believe I was able to go that long. They are so tasty. Wal-mart has oranges for 33 cents a piece! The naval oranges.. the medium-sized ones, just an FYI.

I just peeled one and ate a slice.. they are very sweet. I will have to go get some more! That's a good price... I think?


So glad tomorrow is Friday. I have driving school on Saturday but it’s better than being at work, as far as I’m concerned.. well, except for the not getting paid part 😦

Not sure what’s for dinner tonight.. still have it made it to the grocery store.

Ja Ja Ja Jaded

Much like Aerosmith, I am Jaded.. Tired.. tired of worrying what to eat.

I almost want to restart this thing over. My weight is so stagnant. I am not really losing weight and don’t have much motivation. I haven’t gained weight.. I’m holding btw 37 to 40 lbs that I have lost.. really probably 40 if I could just.. use.. the.. nevermind (lacking fiber, perhaps?) I’ve found that I cheat more than I use to and I really only work out about 1 or 2 times a week. I’ll see Dairy Queen on the way home and scoot by there to grab a kids cone of vanilla ice cream (140 calories) That’s not BAD but if you do that habitually then it could be.. because you could be increasingly more tempted to upgrade that bad boy to a Blizzard.. and don’t get me started on the amount of calories in one of those! I need to start over again.. like I did when I started this whole shabang. I want to be obsessive and annoying again.

Right now I’m sleepy.. my food coma is setting in and I just want to take a nap, so it’s a little hard to be motivated at this point in time. I will say that I plan on making taco soup tonight for dinner and we all know that is my favorite healthy/easy meal to make.

One thing I need to do is go grocery shopping and stock up on Cabbage and chicken and fruit. I think things will be easier when I have kitchen stocked with healthy foods. Right now, we don’t have any food.

How many calories does the garden or veggie roll in the sushi world have.. I think it’s less than 200 a roll but I really want to be sure since I have grown rather fond of it. Especially the garden roll from Fuji San it is delish. Surely it can’t be too many calories.. it’s rabbit food wrapped in rice.

Well.. maybe I’ll get this thing rollin’ again. It became a chore so I stopped while maintaining what I ate.. I think I just need to refocus. Make lists and stop buying my diet dr. peppers that I think I’m entitled to for some reason. That’s what I’m going to do. WRiting about it really does motivate me. It’s like an announcement or memo to the world and now I have to follow through. So thanks for listening and I’ll keep you posted (no pun intended).

I got a job at the Limited when I was a senior in highschool… actually I got it around the time I was graduating.

I was in a size 14, then. I remember one particular outfit that I bought when I worked there. It was a cute leopard print top with these cute dressy khaki pants. Well, my mom never got rid of the pants (She didn’t like the shirt.. she said, “Nice girls don’t wear leopard”). I probably have not worn them sense my freshman year of college.. but she just kept keeping them. 

Paris isn't a nice girl. Maybe mom was right.. ha ha


So yesterday I went by there to borrow some yeast (I am having a pizza party this weekend – yes, I do on occasion allow myself pizza) well, she noticed that my jeans I was wearing were a little loose and told me she had some of my old clothes and I should see if I could get into them. [Enter Limited Dress Khakis] 

To my surprise.. they fit! I could not believe it. They were a little tight.. and wayyy to short but they clipped and zipped and it felt good. 

Well, sense I was reliving my old highschool wardrobe, I figured, why stop? So I tried on a few other pairs of pants.. some 14’s, some New York and Co. 16’s (they were too tight? I think they must have shrunk!).. they were a little tighter which made me sad.. but progress is progress right? It’s better going forward slowly then backwards fast! 🙂

I just wanted to share that exciting news with you. I know I am not writing as much these days. Just too busy but I had to write about that! I’d say that’s quite an accomplishment! SOOO I went home and had some dirt cake! HA. My mom MADE me take some to Matt and I allowed myself a little bit too.
